Government Model College, Basar is located near Nyigam Village under Leparada District, Arunachal Pradesh and it was established in the year 2015. The college had its humble beginnings in a Boys’ Hostel of Government Higher Secondary School, Basar. In 2019, the college was shifted to its permanent site near Nyigam Village. The college, today, is functioning from its permanent campus ensuring quality education to the last student. The college is affiliated to Rajiv Gandhi University, Rono Hills, Doimukh, Arunachal Pradesh, and it follows the semestral system. The college adopted the Choice Based Credit system (CBCS) in the year 2021. From the academic session (2023-2024), the National Education Policy (NEP) - 2020 was introduced in the college, as per the regulations of Rajiv Gandhi University.

The course content and the academic calendar of the college are in accordance with the guidelines issued by RGU. Government Model College, Basar, is the sole government college in the state to be selected as one of the centers for the Common University Entrance Test (CUET), equipped with 50 computers with internet facility. The management is looking forward to making the campus a free Wi-Fi zone to facilitate effective learning of the students.
